Two separate readings, not parts of the score β the score says how much of it held you, these say what kind of watch it was.

β steady β Holds one level all the way. Warm most of the way through. Very little of it ever resolves.

βthe film is too reliant on it. The whole movie is just "wait for the twist," it isn't actually that entertaining to sit through. In fact, most of the dialog is pretty boringβ

βThe Usual Suspects is an ironic, bang-up thriller about the wages of crime. A terrific cast of exciting actors socks over this absorbingly complicated yarn that's been spun in a seductively slick fashion by director Bryan Singer.β

βA near-classic blend of mystery, personality, humor and terror, laced with one stunning shock after another. [18 August 1995, Friday, p.C]β

βThis one's done right. Here's an intelligent movie with no special effects. You have to pay close attention, to listen hard to its cross-fires of dialogue.β

βA movie with style to burn, and, initially, that is this crime drama's most mesmerizing aspect.β

βYouβre watching this in 2022 when youβre programmed to expect a twist based on movies like 6th Sense , Se7en, Saw , Arlington Road , etc etc. But in 1995 (or whatever year this movie came out ) , no one was doing these twists and nobody saw it coming. Itβs a great twist.β

β> Fun fact: When Peter Greene flicks his cigarette into Stephen Baldwin's face, it is legit; it wasn't supposed to happen like that so Baldwin's reaction is genuine. That was one of my favorite moments. I think this was Stephen Baldwin's last good film, before he got bogged down making Christian movies.β

βHaha! Well, those famous Baldwin eyes, true. I really like Peter Greene. A pity about his drug issues. Another with piercing blue eyes, just not like Baldwin's. No real fave character, it was a great ensemble cast.β

βHe was really good in "Threesome" (1994) playing a college student. It has a great soundtrack, too, for its time. But all the characters in TUS were so good, so well developed. I love watching them all. Fun fact - Gabriel Byrne's lawyer girlfriend is named Edie. In "Heat", DeNiro's girlfriend is named Edie. Before we rewatched TUS, I mentioned that GB's girlfriend was Edie, and my husband thought I was the confused one, because he knew DeNiro's girlfriend in "Heat" was Edie! That's another realβ
