how much it moved you
Two separate readings, not parts of the score β the score says how much of it held you, these say what kind of watch it was.

β steady β Holds one level all the way. Hard going most of the way through. Very little of it ever resolves. Marked above the line: 1 that gave people chills.

βI had problems with the end, particularly with the death of Rick. I just felt it was too forced.β

βIt clicked for me when he walked out of the police station at the end. He has a huge grin and the music plays. Brilliant.β

βEspecially during the car chase, when I found myself imagining that he was pursuing the police pursuing Driver during the first heist in Drive.β

βThe film plays with tension beautifully, and there are a few set pieces that I think are all-timers.β

βGilroy, vastly supported by cinematographer and Los Angeles specialist Robert Elswit (Boogie Nights, Magnolia), directs with the verve of a seasoned pro, even though Nightcrawler is his debut.β

βSharp, dark, satirical and bone-rattlingly thrilling, with a career-peak turn from Jake Gyllenhaal. Itβs this yearβs "Drive."β

βMr. Gyllenhaalβs startling portrayal is far from the only distinction in this impeccably crafted feature film. Mr. Gilroyβs directorial debut connects its heroβs tacit madness to the larger craziness of a broadcast medium that teaches vast numbers of viewers to live with a false sense of insecurity.β

βThis is a classic film, not just because every scene and line is casually beautiful and devoid of extraneous touches, but because its tone is mercilessly exact.β

β"Nightcrawler" is a creepy, quirky thriller that delivers an entertaining mix of drama but is a slick and shallow movie and like it's protagonist desperate to be something more. Dan Gilroy who doesn't have the talent that his brother Tony Gilroy quite has in terms of storytelling creates something that could've been a few drafts away from being something interesting but only taps the surface level. The movie starts with Louis Bloom (which is probably the worst name for character in a dark thrilβ

β'Nightcrawler' is a neo noir thriller starring a very impressive (and thin) Jake Gyllenhaal which cleverly satirises the media industry's obsession with horror and violence. The poster's correlation with Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Drive' is a very clear choice because they are very similar in how they're made in terms of themes and even soundtrack. The film is also very similar to Martin Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver' and David Fincher's 'Seven' as the cinematography is very bleak and dark. The stoβ
